Ball’s Top 10 Wedding Ceremony Readings

Nailing down the perfect wedding readings for your big day can be a very overwhelming task. With hundreds of readings to dig through, trying to find the perfect words to describe you and your partner’s love story may not come as easily as you hoped. Luckily, the wedding experts at Ball are here to help! Take a look at our top ten favorite wedding ceremony readings that are sure to leave your guests feeling the love.

1. Extract from Captian Corelli’s Mandolin by Louis De Bernieres: “Love is a temporary madness. It erupts like an earthquake and then subsides. And when it subsides you have to make a decision. You have to work out whether your roots have become so entwined together that it is inconceivable that you should ever part. Because this is what love is. Love is not breathlessness, it is not excitement, it is not the promulgation of promises of eternal passion. That is just being in love, which any of us can convince ourselves we are. Love itself is what is left over when being in love has burned away, and this is both an art and a fortunate accident. Those that truly love, have roots that grow towards each other underground, and when all the pretty blossom have fallen from their branches, they find that they are one tree and not two.”

2. Apache Wedding Prayer Blessing by Unknown: “Now you will feel no rain, for each of you will be the shelter for the other. Now you will feel no cold, for each of you will be the warmth to the other. Now you are two persons, but there is only one life before you. Go now to your dwelling, to enter into the days of your life together, and may your days be good and long upon the earth.”

3. Union by Robert Fulgham: “You have known each other from the first glance of acquaintance to this point of commitment. At some point, you decided to marry. From that moment of yes to this moment of yes, indeed, you have been making promises and agreements in an informal way. All those conversations that were held riding in a car or over a meal or during long walks – all those sentences that began with, “When we’re married” and continued with, “I will and you will and we will” – those late night talks that included “someday” and “somehow” and “maybe” – and all those promises that are unspoken matters of the heart. All these common things, and more, are the real process of a wedding. The symbolic vows that you are about to make are a way of saying to one another, “You know all those things we’ve promised and hoped and dreamed – well, I meant it all, every word.” Look at one another and remember this moment in time. Before this moment you have been many things to one another – acquaintance, friend, companion, lover, dancing partner, and even teacher, for you have learned much from one another in these last few years. Now you shall say a few words that take you across a threshold of life, and things will never quite be the same between you. For after these vows, you shall say to the world, this – is my husband, this – is my wife.”

4. The Art of Marriage by William A. Peterson: “The little things are the big things. It is never being too old to hold hands. It is remembering to say “I love you” at least once a day.

It is never going to sleep angry. It is at no time taking the other for granted; the courtship should not end with the honeymoon, it should continue through all the years.

It is having a mutual sense of values and common objectives. It is standing together facing the world/ It is forming a circle of love that gathers in the whole family. It is doing things for each other, not in the attitude of duty or sacrifice, but in the spirit of joy.

It is speaking words of appreciation and demonstrating gratitude in thoughtful ways. It is not expecting the husband to wear a halo or the wife to have wings of an angel. It is not looking for perfection in each other.

It is cultivating flexibility, patience, understanding and a sense of humor. It is having the capacity to forgive and forget. It is giving each other an atmosphere in which each can grow.

It is finding room for the things of the spirit. It is a common search for the good and the beautiful. It is establishing a relationship in which the independence is equal, dependence is mutual and the obligation is reciprocal.

It is not only marrying the right partner, it is being the right partner.”

5. The Hands Ceremony by Unknown: “Please face each other and take each other’s hands, so that you may see the gift they are to you. There are the hands of your best friend, young and strong and full of love for you, that are holding yours on your wedding day as you promise to love each other today, tomorrow and forever. These are the hands that will work alongside yours as together you build your future.

These are the hands that will passionately love you and cherish you through the years, and with the slightest touch will comfort you like no other. These are the hands that will hold you when fear or grief temporarily comes to you. These are the hands that will countless times wipe the tears from your eyes, tears of sorrow and tears of joy.

These are the hands that will tenderly hold your children, the hands that will join your family as one. These are the hands that will give you strength when you need it, support and encouragement to pursue your dreams, and comfort through difficult times.

And lastly, these are the hands that even when wrinkled and aged will still be reaching for yours, still giving you the same unspoken tenderness with just a touch.”

6. Sooner or Later by Anonymous: “Sooner or later we begin to understand that love is more than verses on valentines and romance in movies. We begin to know that love is here and now, real and true, the most important thing in our lives. For love is the creator of our favorite memories and the foundation of our fondest dreams. Love is a promise that is always kept, a fortune that can never be spent, a seed that can flourish in even the most unlikely of places. And this radiance that never fades, this mysterious and magical joy, is the greatest treasure of all – one known only by those who love.”

7. Marriage Joins Two People in the Circle of Its Love by Edmund O’Neill: “Marriage is a commitment to life, the best that two people can find and bring out in each other. It offers opportunities for sharing and growth that no other relationship can equal. It is a physical and an emotional joining that is promised for a lifetime.

Within the circle of its love, marriage encompasses all of life’s most important relationships. A wife and a husband are each other’s best friend, confidant, lover, teacher, listener and critic. And there may come times when one partner is heartbroken or ailing, and the love of the other may resemble the tender caring of a parent or child.

Marriage deepens and enriches every facet of life. Happiness is fuller, memories are fresher, commitment is stronger, even anger is felt more strongly, and passes away more quickly.

Marriage understands and forgives the mistakes life is unable to avoid. It encourages and nurtures new life, new experiences, new ways of expressing a love that is deeper than life.

When two people pledge their love and care for each other in marriage, they create a spirit unique unto themselves which binds them closer than any spoken or written words. Marriage is a promise, a potential made in the hearts of two people who love each other and takes a lifetime to fulfill.”

8. Love is an Adventure by Pierre Tielhart de Chardin: “Love is an adventure and a conquest. It survives and develops like the universe itself only by perpetual discovery. The only right love is that between couples whose passion leads them both, one through the other, to a higher possession of their being. Put your faith in the spirit which dwells between the two of you. You have each offered yourself to the other as a boundless field of understanding, of enrichment, of mutually increased sensibility. You will meet above all by entering into and constantly sharing one another’s thoughts, affections and dreams. There alone, as you know, in spirit, which is arrived through flesh, you will find no disappointments, no limits. There alone the skies are ever open for your love; there alone lies the great road ahead.”

9. The Bridge Across Forever by Richard Bach: “A soulmate is someone who has locks that fit our keys, and keys to fit our locks. When we feel safe enough to open the locks, our truest selves step out and we can be completely and honestly who we are; we can be loved for who we are and not for who we’re pretending to be. Each unveils the best part of the other. No matter what else goes wrong around us, with that one person, we’re safe in our own paradise. Our soulmate is someone who shares our deepest longings, our sense of direction. When we’re two balloons, and together our direction is up, chances are we’ve found the right person. Our soulmate is the one who makes life come to life.”

10. I Carry Your Heart With Me by E.E. Cummings: “i carry your heart with me (i carry it in my heart) i am never without it (anywhere i go you go, my dear; and whatever is done by only me is your doing, my darling)

i fear no fate (for you are my fate, my sweet) i want no world (for beautiful you are my world, my true) and it’s you are whatever a moon has always meant and whatever a sun will always sing is you

here is the deepest secret nobody knows (here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud and the sky of the sky of a tree called life; which grows higher than the soul can hope or mind can hide) and this is the wonder that’s keeping the stars apart

i carry your heart (i carry it in my heart)”

6 Tips to Save Big on Your Wedding

First comes love, then comes marriage – and with marriage comes quite the financial commitment. If you’re anything like the majority of our brides, you will do anything and everything to save a few bucks on your wedding. Fortunately for you, there’s a way to achieve the wedding of your dreams without breaking the bank. Take a look at these tips to save on your wedding with the help of the experts at NerdWallet.

The Invitations

Go paperless! Electronic invitations are a wonderful way to cut costs as well as track RSVPs. Not only will you save money, but you also eliminate the risk of an invitation getting lost in the mail. If you would rather send out a traditional wedding invitation as opposed to sending your invitation electronically, try printing your own. There are plenty of downloadable user-friendly templates making it easier than ever to create your own invitations from the comfort of your home while saving money.

The Dress

Who says you must buy your wedding dress at a bridal shop? Department stores are a budget-friendly place to starting your dress shopping. Most every department store has a prom/formal dress section filled with beautiful white dresses. This option can work particularly well for brides having a beach wedding. Why drop a pretty penny on a dress from a bridal shop if you’re going to be standing with your toes in the sand? If this is out of the question for you as a bride, consider borrowing your accessories. Not only will you save money, but you’ll also check “something borrowed” off your list.

The Décor

Consider borrowing centerpieces or other left-over items from one of your recently married friends. If you don’t have any recently married friends, try Craigslist or Facebook Marketplace. You are sure to score some great items that you can re-sell and make your money back after your big day. Used not for you? Try looking at craft stores. Hobby Lobby and Michael’s are both reasonably priced and have huge sales often. Creating your own centerpieces will not only save you money, but you will also have the power to ensure your décor will turn out exactly how you envisioned it.

The Catering

When it comes to catering, plated dinners tend to be the most expensive option. Save money by asking each potential caterer about having a buffet or family-style stations. Contact us today for a list of preferred vendors! As for alcohol, start by eliminating children and guests you know will not be interested in drinking alcohol. After you’ve got your headcount, we suggest purchasing your alcohol in bulk at Costco. The best part about buying your alcohol at Costco is their return policy – allowing you to return any unopened bottles for full price!

The Guests

The greater the number of guests, the greater the cost of your wedding. Keep things intimate with a small wedding. Limit the number of plus-ones given out by only inviting couples you socialize with regularly. If a small wedding isn’t something you view as possible for you, trim your guest list by just 10 to 20 people. Although this doesn’t seem like many people, you would be surprised how big of a price difference this can make.

The Venue

When setting your date, save money by contemplating a less popular month, such as January or February. The more demand for a given date, the higher the price you will pay for your venue. Seeing as Saturday is the most expensive day to get married, consider getting married on a Sunday or weeknight. Also, be sure to take advantage of what is included in each venue’s rental fee. Ball Conference Center makes this easy by laying all pricing out from the beginning. To see all Ball has to offer you on your big day, click here!

Ball’s Perfect Bridesmaid Proposal Boxes

Asking your friends to stand beside you on your big day is an exciting experience for both you – the bride – and the lucky few who get asked to be your bridesmaids! Show your best friends just how much they mean to you by asking them to be your bridesmaids in an unforgettable way – with a bridesmaid proposal box. The bridal experts here at Ball have put together some ideas to ensure your best friends will say “Yes!” and be just as thrilled as you are when you pop the question!

Champagne: “Pop the Question” to your friends with a miniature bottle of champagne! Make your own personalized label or save a few by tying a tag around the bottle formally asking your friends to be your bridesmaids. The best part? You can celebrate instantly with a nice champagne toast!

Personalized Champagne/Wine Glass: Now that you’ve popped the question with your champagne bottle, we can’t think of a better way to toast than with personalized glasses. Personalize each glass with each bridesmaids’ name or simply with their first initial. Although this can be a tad bit pricier, your bridesmaids are sure to appreciate the thought put into this everlasting gift.

Framed Photo: What is more personal than a photo of you and each bridesmaid? The perfect touch to your bridesmaid box – incorporating a framed photo of the two of you will reflect the special friendship you have with each individual. Not only will your bridesmaids have their photo for years to come, but each time they look at their photo they will remember the extravagant way you asked them to help you say “I do.”

Nail Polish: A fun way to give your bridesmaids a sneak peak of your wedding colors is with nail polish. Find a polish that matches your main wedding color the best and your bridesmaids can use it to dress up their nails for your big day. Let’s face it – no girl can have enough nail polish!

Bath Bomb: Because who doesn’t love a nice bath bomb? Your bridesmaids are sure to enjoy the relaxation that comes with a bath bomb after helping make sure your wedding planning goes smoothly. Our tip? Tie a tag around each bath bomb with, “You’re the Bomb,” written on it. Such a fun way to personalize a simple gift!

Ring Pop: A sweet treat to incorporate into your bridesmaid boxes is a Ring Pop. The second-best thing to a diamond ring – your bridesmaids are sure to get a kick out of this fun gift! A photo op with your engagement ring and your bridesmaids’ Ring Pops is a unique way to announce the lucky few who will be standing beside you on your big day.

Whether you choose to incorporate all or just a couple of these gifts while popping the question, we are sure your bridesmaids will be honored and appreciative of the work you put into making this an unforgettable experience for everyone involved!

Thanks for Popping By: Who doesn’t love popcorn? Especially after a night full of dancing! Renting a popcorn machine is a unique way to get your guests involved in making their own thank you bag. Have personalized popcorn bags sitting next to the popcorn machine and your guests can fill their own bag to their liking.

Don’t be Blinded by Our Love: Personalized sunglasses are an everlasting thank you gift that can be used for years to come. Adding you and your husband’s names, as well as your wedding date to each side of the sunglasses will be the perfect thank you gift for a summer wedding!

Personalized Paddle Fans: Perfect for outdoor weddings! Prior to your ceremony, have a basket full of fans for each guest to grab upon arrival. We suggest putting your names, the date and “Thank You,” on one side and a quote that describes your love story on the other. Your guests are sure to be extra thankful you were considering their comfort during your big day.

Let Love Grow: A trendy way to thank your guests is with a succulent. This can double as not only a thank you gift, but also as toppers for your guest tables. Not only are succulents beautiful and easy to take care of, they are also affordable.  With a personalized message like, “Let Love Grow,” written on a tag tied around each succulent, your guests are sure to appreciate this thoughtful thank you gift.

Picking a thank you gift that stands out to you most is an exciting process! Nothing feels better than giving back to those who took the time to be there for you when it is most important. Be sure to check out all Ball Conference Center has to offer for your special day.
