Top 5 Tips on Creating the Perfect Playlist for Your Wedding

Music – it brings your wedding guests together and sets the mood at one of the biggest celebrations of your life, BUT it can also be a daunting task to create a playlist that everyone will be sure to enjoy. The experts here at Ball have gathered some tips on building the ultimate wedding reception playlist that perfectly fits you and your fiancé’s special day.

The first step is to decide whether you want to hire a professional or if you want to create a DIY playlist. Live bands and DJ’s will be pricier, but will also take some time and stress off your plate. Setting up, timing, and MC’ing are just a few parts the professionals can take care of. We do recommend still meeting the DJ or band and discussing genres of music and artists that you want or that you don’t want to hear at your celebration. Prior to your big day, talk about toasts, special “dances,” like father-daughter and the order of events that will take place, and then let them do their magic, while you dance the night away with loved ones!

The beauty in playing the part of DJ yourselves is having complete control over what is played at the wedding reception, and it can truly be a compilation of the bride and groom’s favorites! Here are some tips for creating a one-of-a-kind playlist for the big day.

  1. Make a list with your fiancé. This is the day about the two of you and the playlist should be a collaboration of all your favorites!
  2. Use an app like WeddingDJ. An app such as WeddingDJ is pre-programmed with all of the day’s events, which can keep you organized, along with ways for guests to request songs and make changes on the go.
  3. Ask for requests. A wedding reception can last up to 6 or more hours, so the more music, the better. Consider having a playlist making party prior to your big day with your family, the bridal party and/or all your best friends!
  4. Listen to your entire playlist. Before your wedding celebration, listen to your playlist all the way through. Make sure there are no long gaps, moments of silence, or awkward transitions.
  5. Stay true to your musical taste. The best part about creating a DIY playlist is that it can truly reflect you and your fiancé’s love story, so don’t hold back and pick the tunes that will make the night even more special.

When the big day comes, whether music is played by professionals or by a music app, Ball Conference Center is a beautiful venue to dance the night away in. Check us out here!

Ball’s Tips for Creating Your Wedding Hashtag

Chances are if you’re scrolling through Instagram you’ll come across at least one post with a wedding hashtag included. Although the idea of a wedding hashtag may sound silly to some, it’s a convenient way to search for all the memories shared by your closest loved ones on your special day – like a wedding album for the digital ages! With social media having such a big impact on society today, coming up with the perfect hashtag can be more difficult for some than others – especially when your partner’s name isn’t easily “hashtagable.” The wedding experts at Ball are here to share a few pointers to help you create your ideal wedding hashtag!

1. Before committing to your wedding hashtag, do a hashtag search on Instagram to see how many others have already taken your idea – you want your hashtag to be completely your own.

2. Host a hashtag brainstorming party – this is also a great opportunity to surprise your select few with bridesmaid proposals!

3. There’s nothing better than a super creative hashtag – think of something that is easy to remember and “punny.” Some examples we like are: #ForeverYoung, #TyingTheKnot and #BrideToBlair

4. Still having a difficult time? There are several wedding hashtag generator sites such as Happily Ever Hashtagged that will do the work for you!

5. Once you come to an agreement on your wedding hashtag, let your friends and family know ASAP, so they can begin using it right away.

6. Share your hashtag at your reception on table cards or a chalkboard near the entrance. The more people who know about your hashtag, the more likely they are to use it!

Creating a hashtag is just a little piece of the puzzle when it comes to your wedding, so don’t stress if you feel like your selection isn’t quite perfect. After all, the most important part is saying, “I do,” to spending eternity with your partner! In the KC area and looking for a wedding venue that’s as beautiful as it is affordable? Ball’s Favorite Unity Ritual – The Wine Box Ceremony

Finding a unity ritual to include in your wedding ceremony can feel like a daunting task – especially if you’re having a non-religious ceremony. Many unity rituals have roots linked to religious traditions and may not feel like the right fit for your special day. Luckily, we’ve found a unity ritual for all religions – and wine lovers! A wine box ceremony is a beautiful way to celebrate the unity of you and your spouse-to-be.

A wine box ceremony is a wedding ritual in which a bottle of wine is enclosed into a box. The wine is to remain locked in the box until a specific date decided between you and your spouse-to-be – many couples choose a future anniversary or save it to get through a tough time. Some couples opt to add even more meaning by including love letters to one another along with the wine.

Take a look at these 3 important steps for your perfect wine box ceremony:

1. Find a bottle of wine that you want to preserve. When selecting a wine for your box you want to choose one that will age well. We suggest talking to someone at your local wine store while going through this process. Also, look into how and where the bottle should be stored. Most wines stay best when stored horizontally in a dark, cool place. This is important when deciding where you will display your box!

2. Pick a box. There are several options available online including engraved boxes and boxes that come with two glasses for you to keep in a safe place and use once the box and bottle are opened. Want to make your box even more meaningful? Make one with your spouse-to-be!

3. Incorporate the box into your wedding ceremony. Have your selected wine, box and any other items you wish to include in the box on display near the altar. When the time comes for your unity ritual, have your officiant explain the significance of your wine box – mentioning the wine chosen and when you plan to open it. Then, the two of you will place the wine and any other items into the box and close the lid. Many couples select a box with a latch and a lock, so the box can quickly be locked with a key mid-ceremony.

When your decided time comes, open the box, pour some wine, sit back and relax while watching your wedding video admiring how far you’ve come in your journey as a married couple. Cheers!

Ball’s Top 10 Wedding Ceremony Readings

Nailing down the perfect wedding readings for your big day can be a very overwhelming task. With hundreds of readings to dig through, trying to find the perfect words to describe you and your partner’s love story may not come as easily as you hoped. Luckily, the wedding experts at Ball are here to help! Take a look at our top ten favorite wedding ceremony readings that are sure to leave your guests feeling the love.

1. Extract from Captian Corelli’s Mandolin by Louis De Bernieres: “Love is a temporary madness. It erupts like an earthquake and then subsides. And when it subsides you have to make a decision. You have to work out whether your roots have become so entwined together that it is inconceivable that you should ever part. Because this is what love is. Love is not breathlessness, it is not excitement, it is not the promulgation of promises of eternal passion. That is just being in love, which any of us can convince ourselves we are. Love itself is what is left over when being in love has burned away, and this is both an art and a fortunate accident. Those that truly love, have roots that grow towards each other underground, and when all the pretty blossom have fallen from their branches, they find that they are one tree and not two.”

2. Apache Wedding Prayer Blessing by Unknown: “Now you will feel no rain, for each of you will be the shelter for the other. Now you will feel no cold, for each of you will be the warmth to the other. Now you are two persons, but there is only one life before you. Go now to your dwelling, to enter into the days of your life together, and may your days be good and long upon the earth.”

3. Union by Robert Fulgham: “You have known each other from the first glance of acquaintance to this point of commitment. At some point, you decided to marry. From that moment of yes to this moment of yes, indeed, you have been making promises and agreements in an informal way. All those conversations that were held riding in a car or over a meal or during long walks – all those sentences that began with, “When we’re married” and continued with, “I will and you will and we will” – those late night talks that included “someday” and “somehow” and “maybe” – and all those promises that are unspoken matters of the heart. All these common things, and more, are the real process of a wedding. The symbolic vows that you are about to make are a way of saying to one another, “You know all those things we’ve promised and hoped and dreamed – well, I meant it all, every word.” Look at one another and remember this moment in time. Before this moment you have been many things to one another – acquaintance, friend, companion, lover, dancing partner, and even teacher, for you have learned much from one another in these last few years. Now you shall say a few words that take you across a threshold of life, and things will never quite be the same between you. For after these vows, you shall say to the world, this – is my husband, this – is my wife.”

4. The Art of Marriage by William A. Peterson: “The little things are the big things. It is never being too old to hold hands. It is remembering to say “I love you” at least once a day.

It is never going to sleep angry. It is at no time taking the other for granted; the courtship should not end with the honeymoon, it should continue through all the years.

It is having a mutual sense of values and common objectives. It is standing together facing the world/ It is forming a circle of love that gathers in the whole family. It is doing things for each other, not in the attitude of duty or sacrifice, but in the spirit of joy.

It is speaking words of appreciation and demonstrating gratitude in thoughtful ways. It is not expecting the husband to wear a halo or the wife to have wings of an angel. It is not looking for perfection in each other.

It is cultivating flexibility, patience, understanding and a sense of humor. It is having the capacity to forgive and forget. It is giving each other an atmosphere in which each can grow.

It is finding room for the things of the spirit. It is a common search for the good and the beautiful. It is establishing a relationship in which the independence is equal, dependence is mutual and the obligation is reciprocal.

It is not only marrying the right partner, it is being the right partner.”

5. The Hands Ceremony by Unknown: “Please face each other and take each other’s hands, so that you may see the gift they are to you. There are the hands of your best friend, young and strong and full of love for you, that are holding yours on your wedding day as you promise to love each other today, tomorrow and forever. These are the hands that will work alongside yours as together you build your future.

These are the hands that will passionately love you and cherish you through the years, and with the slightest touch will comfort you like no other. These are the hands that will hold you when fear or grief temporarily comes to you. These are the hands that will countless times wipe the tears from your eyes, tears of sorrow and tears of joy.

These are the hands that will tenderly hold your children, the hands that will join your family as one. These are the hands that will give you strength when you need it, support and encouragement to pursue your dreams, and comfort through difficult times.

And lastly, these are the hands that even when wrinkled and aged will still be reaching for yours, still giving you the same unspoken tenderness with just a touch.”

6. Sooner or Later by Anonymous: “Sooner or later we begin to understand that love is more than verses on valentines and romance in movies. We begin to know that love is here and now, real and true, the most important thing in our lives. For love is the creator of our favorite memories and the foundation of our fondest dreams. Love is a promise that is always kept, a fortune that can never be spent, a seed that can flourish in even the most unlikely of places. And this radiance that never fades, this mysterious and magical joy, is the greatest treasure of all – one known only by those who love.”

7. Marriage Joins Two People in the Circle of Its Love by Edmund O’Neill: “Marriage is a commitment to life, the best that two people can find and bring out in each other. It offers opportunities for sharing and growth that no other relationship can equal. It is a physical and an emotional joining that is promised for a lifetime.

Within the circle of its love, marriage encompasses all of life’s most important relationships. A wife and a husband are each other’s best friend, confidant, lover, teacher, listener and critic. And there may come times when one partner is heartbroken or ailing, and the love of the other may resemble the tender caring of a parent or child.

Marriage deepens and enriches every facet of life. Happiness is fuller, memories are fresher, commitment is stronger, even anger is felt more strongly, and passes away more quickly.

Marriage understands and forgives the mistakes life is unable to avoid. It encourages and nurtures new life, new experiences, new ways of expressing a love that is deeper than life.

When two people pledge their love and care for each other in marriage, they create a spirit unique unto themselves which binds them closer than any spoken or written words. Marriage is a promise, a potential made in the hearts of two people who love each other and takes a lifetime to fulfill.”

8. Love is an Adventure by Pierre Tielhart de Chardin: “Love is an adventure and a conquest. It survives and develops like the universe itself only by perpetual discovery. The only right love is that between couples whose passion leads them both, one through the other, to a higher possession of their being. Put your faith in the spirit which dwells between the two of you. You have each offered yourself to the other as a boundless field of understanding, of enrichment, of mutually increased sensibility. You will meet above all by entering into and constantly sharing one another’s thoughts, affections and dreams. There alone, as you know, in spirit, which is arrived through flesh, you will find no disappointments, no limits. There alone the skies are ever open for your love; there alone lies the great road ahead.”

9. The Bridge Across Forever by Richard Bach: “A soulmate is someone who has locks that fit our keys, and keys to fit our locks. When we feel safe enough to open the locks, our truest selves step out and we can be completely and honestly who we are; we can be loved for who we are and not for who we’re pretending to be. Each unveils the best part of the other. No matter what else goes wrong around us, with that one person, we’re safe in our own paradise. Our soulmate is someone who shares our deepest longings, our sense of direction. When we’re two balloons, and together our direction is up, chances are we’ve found the right person. Our soulmate is the one who makes life come to life.”

10. I Carry Your Heart With Me by E.E. Cummings: “i carry your heart with me (i carry it in my heart) i am never without it (anywhere i go you go, my dear; and whatever is done by only me is your doing, my darling)

i fear no fate (for you are my fate, my sweet) i want no world (for beautiful you are my world, my true) and it’s you are whatever a moon has always meant and whatever a sun will always sing is you

here is the deepest secret nobody knows (here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud and the sky of the sky of a tree called life; which grows higher than the soul can hope or mind can hide) and this is the wonder that’s keeping the stars apart

i carry your heart (i carry it in my heart)”

6 Tips to Save Big on Your Wedding

First comes love, then comes marriage – and with marriage comes quite the financial commitment. If you’re anything like the majority of our brides, you will do anything and everything to save a few bucks on your wedding. Fortunately for you, there’s a way to achieve the wedding of your dreams without breaking the bank. Take a look at these tips to save on your wedding with the help of the experts at NerdWallet.

The Invitations

Go paperless! Electronic invitations are a wonderful way to cut costs as well as track RSVPs. Not only will you save money, but you also eliminate the risk of an invitation getting lost in the mail. If you would rather send out a traditional wedding invitation as opposed to sending your invitation electronically, try printing your own. There are plenty of downloadable user-friendly templates making it easier than ever to create your own invitations from the comfort of your home while saving money.

The Dress

Who says you must buy your wedding dress at a bridal shop? Department stores are a budget-friendly place to starting your dress shopping. Most every department store has a prom/formal dress section filled with beautiful white dresses. This option can work particularly well for brides having a beach wedding. Why drop a pretty penny on a dress from a bridal shop if you’re going to be standing with your toes in the sand? If this is out of the question for you as a bride, consider borrowing your accessories. Not only will you save money, but you’ll also check “something borrowed” off your list.

The Décor

Consider borrowing centerpieces or other left-over items from one of your recently married friends. If you don’t have any recently married friends, try Craigslist or Facebook Marketplace. You are sure to score some great items that you can re-sell and make your money back after your big day. Used not for you? Try looking at craft stores. Hobby Lobby and Michael’s are both reasonably priced and have huge sales often. Creating your own centerpieces will not only save you money, but you will also have the power to ensure your décor will turn out exactly how you envisioned it.

The Catering

When it comes to catering, plated dinners tend to be the most expensive option. Save money by asking each potential caterer about having a buffet or family-style stations. Contact us today for a list of preferred vendors! As for alcohol, start by eliminating children and guests you know will not be interested in drinking alcohol. After you’ve got your headcount, we suggest purchasing your alcohol in bulk at Costco. The best part about buying your alcohol at Costco is their return policy – allowing you to return any unopened bottles for full price!

The Guests

The greater the number of guests, the greater the cost of your wedding. Keep things intimate with a small wedding. Limit the number of plus-ones given out by only inviting couples you socialize with regularly. If a small wedding isn’t something you view as possible for you, trim your guest list by just 10 to 20 people. Although this doesn’t seem like many people, you would be surprised how big of a price difference this can make.

The Venue

When setting your date, save money by contemplating a less popular month, such as January or February. The more demand for a given date, the higher the price you will pay for your venue. Seeing as Saturday is the most expensive day to get married, consider getting married on a Sunday or weeknight. Also, be sure to take advantage of what is included in each venue’s rental fee. Ball Conference Center makes this easy by laying all pricing out from the beginning. To see all Ball has to offer you on your big day, click here!
