2020 is certainly an interesting year when it comes to weddings!

If you had to change your wedding plans, we feel for you. With the pandemic showing no signs of slowing down, you might be considering canceling or postponing your honeymoon, too. Every couple looks forward to their honeymoon—a chance to spend time together, just the two of you! Although you might not get the honeymoon you planned for, we have some ideas to enjoy this time with your new spouse.

Are You Canceling, Or Just Postponing?
This is the least fun of our suggestions, but trust us, you have to do it. If you’ve planned a trip, check to see if you can cancel without losing your deposit. Contact the airlines for the flights you’ve booked, your hotel, and any excursions you might have booked in advance. You might be able to postpone your trip instead of canceling it completely, which is a great option if you can’t get a refund. Be sure to negotiate—you never know which businesses might be sympathetic to a newlywed couple.

Set Up a Homeymoon! (That’s not a typo!)
The most important part of your honeymoon was never the destination, but the person you’re spending it with! Now might be a good time to go all out at home.

Deck the Halls
You and your spouse could decorate your home with a sign, romantic snacks, chocolate on your pillows, and a bottle of champagne on ice. You could try to bring in some design elements of your would-be honeymoon destination or choose a different theme for your homeymoon. If you look forward to surprises, now would be a great time to ask your maid of honor or best man for some help. How awesome would it be to have them set up some decorations for you?

Hide the Phones
Be sure to make this a time to focus on your spouse—don’t look at the news or social media, lock up all of your work materials, and plan some cozy alone time. If you really want to go all out, try forgoing electronics. You can watch tv anytime, and candlelight is so romantic.

Support Local Restaurants
If you don’t want to cook, research restaurants in your area who will deliver to you. Not only will you get a delicious, romantic, meal, but it’s a great way to support local businesses during the pandemic.

Create an Itinerary to Keep Boredom at Bay
If you’ve been worried about boredom the whole time you’ve been reading this, don’t worry! The best part of a homeymoon is being intentional with the time you spend together. Come up with a list of fun activities you want to do, but usually don’t have time for. We’re thinking board games, card games, couples’ massages, stargazing in the backyard, cooking a new meal together, or learning how to make a new signature cocktail.

If you like surprises, ask some friends or family if they wouldn’t mind contributing some at-home fun for your honeymoon. Be sure to stress that delivery or a porch drop off is fine. They might surprise you with a couple’s painting activity, a custom-made jigsaw puzzle or something completely unique to the two of you.

If you want to get away and find yourself starting from scratch, here are some of our favorite ideas for easy travel.

Rent a Spot-on Airbnb
You can still have the experience of going somewhere for your honeymoon if you think local. Explore your town or a nearby locale by renting a cute place on Airbnb. You can use our at-home tips once you’re there!

Camping
If you like the outdoors, now might be a great time to pitch a tent, whether it’s in your own backyard or a local campground.

Hotel
Not into tent pitching? We hear you. You might as well enjoy some amenities and room service at a local hotel!

Road Trip
If you still want to travel but aren’t into the idea of flying during the pandemic, try road tripping to your destination. You can go at your own pace, make a special honeymoon playlist, and schedule stops along the way.
